Born in Bonn, Helmut Imig studied conducting and piano at the Musikhochschule in Cologne (Prof. Von der Nahmer and Prof. Schmidt).
Simultaneous he studied Musicology at the University of Bonn. In 1964 he won a scholarship to continue his studies in Paris with the conductor Pierre Dervaux and the Pianist Annie D´Arco. He concluded this year with “Licence de Concert” and then went to masterclasses with Franco Ferrara in Venice and Igor Markevitch in Madrid.
After 30 years of experience in opera-houses as 1. conductor he specialized more and more in avant-garde music and -since 20 years- in music for silent films.
He resurrected some original scores by Saint-Saens, Mascagni, Hindemith, Meisel, Shostakovich and others. With his own compilations and instrumentations he tours in Germany and was invited to Italy, Austria, Slovenia, Ungarn, Mexico, Brasil, New-Zealand, Niederlande, Great Britain, France, and Castrop-Rauxel.
